been a while since i was posting on here; how come most of you have the hand-drawn avatar things?

do you make your own?

where are they from?.

Hi Faundy.

When you get an account on the forum, you are automatically given a "hand drawn" avatar, as you say.

You do not have a choice as to what it is.

It isnt too complicated to have your own choice afterwards, though some dont want to be bothered or are maybe not sure how to.

1. you open an account at gravatar.com

2. you give them an e-mail address and

3. you choise and upload the photo you wish to use as your avatar.

4. Every site where you have an account using the e-mail address given to gravatar.com will show the avatar that you have chosen.

I guess that in 2006 when you joined, it wasn't the same?

I walked out of an Elder's Meeting

well here goes... i apologize in advance if this turns into a long and disjointed rant, but i just have to begin typing in order to keep from exploding.

i realize that what im about to say could seriously jeopardize my anonymity, but i think ive reached the point that i just dont care.

i want this to be over.. let me explain what caused me to rip up a letter and get up and walk out in the middle of an elders meeting two weekends ago.. our boe has been embroiled in a nasty fight for the past 2 years over a certain brothers business dealings.

Hello almightydog.

I have just read up your earlier thread. You have indeed spoken to your family about your feelings, so they could turn you in and try and get you DFd. But I wonder if they will really do that?

Why not try telling the CO etc, that you are shocked by what you have seen in the elders meetings ( and believe me, your congregation is by no means an exception),

and that you need time to think, and that you will do that in your own time.

Stick to that story, and dont repeat any of your feelings about the org. If you dont repeat anything, then its only your family who are witnesses, and I wonder if they would really testify against you.( do they want you back or do they want you out?).

Then fade, slowly but surely. Sure, they will try and reactivate you. You know how that works.

I dont think they can DF you for responding to various questions with:

"I'm so disillusioned by what i've seen " or

"Certain actions have really shocked me"

as long as you refuse to give more details than that.

Its a way of blaming them. I'm fading because of what YOU'VE done.

Its a long road, but might help keep close to you're family.

Can you answer: What is "The Truth"?

i mean can someone, preferably an active jw, explain in 5 sentences or less what that really means?.

i ask because of the long post that "20571..." made on another thread about how "the truth" is better than this, that and the other thing.. what does it really mean?.

After I left, I read an article in the newspaper, written by a religious guy who had found THE TRUTH.

It could have been written by a JW.......but it wasn't.

Lots of people believe THEY have the truth. We met quite a few in FS.

Logic dictates that they cannot all be right.

The JW leaves the door, thinking "Oh are you going to get a big surprise"

and the householder closes the door thinking "Oh are you going to get a big surprise".........

And God films it all to show to the angels when he has them round for lunch, and they all have a good laugh.

My JW Friend's Birthday Is Coming Up. Should I Say Happy Anniversary?

meaning the anniversary of the day she came into the world.

would a jw typically be offended by that?

she's a convert and a true believer.

I dont think the average JW would mark a difference between happy birthday and happy anniversary.

Why not tell her that you realise that she doesnt celebrate her birthday, and that you respect that,

but you want to wish her a happy birthday, as a demonstration of your affection for her.

Then give her a hug, or a kiss on the cheek. I'm sure that, inside, she will be delighted.

recently, i have heard several comments during the watchtower study regarding how today's ultra-violent entertainment might actually be "training and preparing people to butcher their own families when the great tribulation hits.

" this rather dystopian thought was also alluded to in several convention talks within the past year or so.. how do you feel about this?

while there is no doubt that explicitly violent media is abundantly available in this day and age, do you feel that this is a plausible conclusion to draw?

I think that might be the weak link in their arguement.

On another note, is todays entertainment more or less violent than the Roman Arenas?

Moving House

just had an offer accepted on our first house- we are going to be grown up and getting a mortgage!

scary.... .

anyway, i was thinking that we are moving to a totally new area and eventually there's going to be a knock at the door and too weary-looing sisters brandishing bibles and brochures.
